August 24, 2006 - Holdrege

We were so hot and tired that we crawled to our cars and drove to Holdrege for quick showers before we joined the evening Farmer's Market in Downtown Holdrege. The heat is good for the corn but seemed to be hard on us today.

The Farmer's Market at Holdrege was great. Baked goods, music, cookout foods, and plenty of produce kept us heading back across the street one more time for more tasty food. Aerocar 2 Dave cooked sweet corn in the microwave he has stashed in his truck (why didn't we know about THAT before?) and we took up residency under the street awning until we had nothing left but a pile of corn cobs. Anne would tell you about corn cobs on the farm but it would be "the saddest story you ever heard" so let's not go there.

We found great hospitality at the Plain's Motel and we will make a point of staying there whenever we travel across Nebraska.

Thanks, Holdrege, and good night . . . . . . z z z z z z z z z z z
